Introduction:

This document states whether or not it's possible to REPRO the Control File of one release into the Control File of another release.

Question:

Is it possible to REPRO the Control File of one release into the Control File of another release?

Environment:
z/OS 1.11 and above.
Answer:

Using an IDCAMS REPRO utility to copy the Control File is not recommended because it can cause unpredictable results. Instead we recommend either:

     1) Using the Control File, Datastore & Profiles from the prior release with the new release. (Note: Datastores that

were created before r15 & Profiles that were created before r14 cannot be used with this method).

     2) Allocate a Control File, Datastore & Profiles for the new release. Afterwards, copy the Old Datastore & Profiles

into the new ones using the PDTDSCPY & PDTCPCPY Utility jobs in the <High.Level>.CDBASRC library.
