Introduction:

The Max Threads for Tomcat should be increased from inception, as it is originally set to a low value (75) by default.

The recommended size is of 150 to 300 and it's changed in file server.xml. This document provides the Steps to do the same.

Environment:
The instructions from this document applies to SDM r12.x and 14.1. For SDM 12.9 and 14.1, it applies to both Conventional and Advanced Availability modes.
Instructions:

Here are the revised steps to increase the number of Tomcat threads:

  1. Take a backup copy of the server.xml file from NX_ROOT/bopcfg/www/CATALINA_BASE/conf.

  2. Open server.xml file from NX_ROOT/bopcfg/www/CATALINA_BASE/conf with a
    text editor. Find the appropriate "connector" section and set maxThreads to 300.

    Before
    <Connector connectionTimeout="20000" port="8080" protocol="HTTP/1.1"
    redirectPort="8443"/>

    After

    <Connector connectionTimeout="20000" port="8080"
    protocol="HTTP/1.1"maxThreads="300" redirectPort="8443"/>

  3. Restart Tomcat:
    Stops Tomcat pdm_tomcat_nxd -c stop
    Checks Tomcat service status pdm_tomcat_nxd -c status
    Starts Tomcat pdm_tomcat_nxd -c start
    Checks Tomcat service status pdm_tomcat_nxd -c status
  4. For SDM releases 12.6, 12.7 as well as 12.9 and 14.1 in Conventional mode, the instructions apply to the Primary and all Secondary servers (if any).

  5. For SDM releases 12.9 and 14.1 running Advanced Availability mode, the instructions apply to the Background, Standby and Application servers.
