In order to use DB2 with VISION:Inform queries you must have a license for the DB2 Relational Support option of VISION:Inform.

Install the MARKSQL module and do associated DB2 binds according to the VISION:Inform Installation manual.  The Call Attach option is suggested.

Set up Dataviews to access DB2 tables. Using the Definition Processor with TSO/ISPF you can import the DB2 table definitions from the DB2 catalogues into VISION:Inform under option 19. If the DB2 tables are very large you have the option to import them into VISION:Inform via the batch Quick Start utilities. JCL is provided in the VISION:Inform JCL library created during the installation. The online import of DB2 definitions is documented in the VISION:Inform Definition Processor Upgrade manual . The DB2 Quick Start utility is documented in the VISION:Inform Utilities section of the System Administration manual.

Make any appropriate modifications to the Dataviews by editing them in option 21 of the Definition Processor.

Select the first segment and specify which field(s) make up the key placing a number, 1 through 9, in the Seg Key Field column for that field. If the fields are more than 255 bytes, which is the maximum field size, then additional fields will be required to define the bytes greater than 255. Repeat this step for each segment.

After all definitions have been setup, execute the promote job PROMDF1 which updates the appropriate VISION:Inform libraries with the specified definitions. Please refer to VISION:Inform Utilities section of the VISION:Inform System Administration manual.

After the promote process is complete the users must be given access to the definitions they require.  The system administrator logs onto VISION:Inform in IMS or CICS to setup or modify the user PROFILE information. Please refer to VISION:Inform System Administration manual.

After PROFILE setup is complete the user can to logon to VISION:Inform to build and submit queries to access DB2 tables.

Before running any queries, the Background Processor (EXECOS member in the VISION:Inform JCL library created during the installation) must be set up including any and all JCL changes. In addition make any required  changes to the run parameters in the OSCNTL member in the SRCLIB library created during the install of the system. These processes are documented in the VISION:Inform System Administration manual.

During setup of the Background Processor note that there are 4 files and one member that must be unique for each Background Processorthat is created. They are the M4REPO, M4REPI, M4SORT, ASVLOG and the SRCLIB member of OSCNTL. The OSCNTL member contains the control statements that are input into each Background Processor for specific control of its query processing and must contain a unique name for each Background Processor.
