Introduction:

Part of the Unified Infrastructure Management (UIM) (aka Nimsoft -NMS) upgrade procedure says to remove any custom probes, which will be imported later. This answers how to do that - export custom probes, and then re-import them after a UIM/NMS upgrade.

Part of the Unified Infrastructure Management (UIM) (aka Nimsoft -NMS) upgrade procedure says to remove any custom probes, which will be imported later. This answers how to do that - export custom probes, and then re-import them after a UIM/NMS upgrade.

Instructions

For the purpose of removing custom probes in order to upgrade UIM (and previously NMS), and afterward re-importing the customer probes, do the following:

  1. Go to distsrv probe configuration and deactivate forwarding if enabled (uncheck all profiles in forwarding tab).
  2. Deactivate the distsrv probe.
  3. Go to the NMS Server where the distsrv probe is running and copy off (backup) the $nimroot\archive folder to another location of your choice, such as the desktop. (This folder contains archive zip files of each of your deployed probes, including custom probes.)
  4. Delete all custom probe files from that archive folder.
  5. Delete custom probes from robot.
  6. Activate the distsrv probe.
  7. Perform the upgrade.
  8. Deactivate the distsrv probe.
  9. You may then reimport into the IM archive the custom probe zip files from the archive backup (made in step 2).
  10. Activate the distsrv probe.
  11. Re-deploy the probe(s).
